Residential Dining Halls

Dining hall coffee runs longer hours than almost any other foodservice coffee, from early breakfast through late-night study hours, and it is judged by the same students every single day. That makes consistency the whole job. Pre-measured packs sized to your batch brewers keep the dose steady no matter which student worker opens the station, and decaf gets planned from real usage rather than a flat percentage.

Iced coffee and cold brew now run year-round in many dining halls rather than as a spring and summer extra. We supply cold brew and iced coffee in bag-in-box and liquid concentrate for standard dispensers, so the cold side of the station does not depend on anyone brewing overnight.

Catering, Conferences, and Athletics

Catering and conference services turn campus coffee into an event logistics problem: urns brewed early, transported across campus, and held at temperature for a room of visitors who will remember the coffee. Pre-measured urn and filter packs keep the dose right for whoever is setting up, and iced tea and juice concentrates cover the lunch break. Many of the same principles apply to hotel and conference coffee, covered in our guide to coffee programs for conferences and corporate events.

Athletics concessions add a different kind of peak: thousands of people in a few hours, often outdoors. Batch coffee for cold-weather games and ready-to-drink cold coffee for warm ones cover both ends of the season.

Campus Convenience Stores and Grab-and-Go

Campus convenience stores and grab-and-go markets run like any self-serve coffee bar. Customers brew their own, staff attention is limited, and waste comes from coffee that sits too long. Whole bean specified for bean-to-cup machines, cold brew on tap, and ready-to-drink bottles in the cooler cover most campus stores.

More on choosing between batch brew and bean-to-cup in our convenience store coffee programs.

Faculty and Staff Lounges

Department lounges and administrative offices are small, spread out, and usually forgotten until someone complains. Fractional packs for traditional brewers and single-serve pods for pod machines keep them supplied from the same account as the dining halls, rather than through a separate office coffee vendor.

Coffee With the University's Name on It

A university-branded coffee can run through the dining halls and catering, sit on the shelf in the campus store, and ship as part of alumni or athletics merchandise. The university keeps the brand, and the coffee is roasted and packed for it.

  • House blends. Developed with the dining team, from origin selection up.
  • Matched blends. Send us the coffee your dining halls pour now, and our sourcing and roasting teams cup against it until the profile matches.
  • Retail packaging for the campus store. The same blend your dining halls pour, packed as whole bean or ground coffee your campus store can sell alongside other university merchandise.
  • Trademark approval. Packaging that uses university names or marks typically goes through the campus trademark licensing office. We build that step into the timeline rather than discovering it at the end.

What Campus Coffee Evaluations Look For

When a coffee contract comes up for renewal, campuses tend to evaluate the same short list of things. Tasting is usually blind and includes hot coffee, decaf, and cold brew, often with students and staff doing the tasting. Beyond the cup, dining and purchasing teams look at sourcing and sustainability, pricing structure, training and marketing support, equipment needs, and how product will be distributed to every location. Here is how we answer each.

The cup

We will prepare hot, decaf, and cold brew samples for your tasting, specified for the equipment your locations actually run, so the tasting reflects what would be served rather than a sample brewed under ideal conditions.

Sourcing and sustainability

We buy green coffee from more than 25 producing countries through direct relationships with growers and exporters. Here is how we approach sustainable coffee sourcing.

Pricing structure

Pricing is set per program based on volume and formats, and we provide it in whatever structure your RFP requests.

Equipment

A coffee change should not force an equipment change. We specify each blend for the brewers, bean-to-cup machines, and dispensers already on your campus, so the tasting reflects what your locations will actually serve.

Distribution

A campus is a dozen delivery points with different storage and receiving hours, and those needs shift with the academic calendar. We build the supply plan around your locations, storage, and schedule in the first conversation, so product arrives where it is used rather than piling up at central receiving.

How a Campus Coffee Program Comes Together

  • Step 1: Map every location

We start by listing every place coffee is served on campus and the equipment at each one. Most campuses find a few locations that have been running on a separate vendor for years.

  • Step 2: Taste with the people who drink it

We cup candidate profiles with the dining team and, if you want, with students and staff. Coffee chosen by the people who drink it every day tends to survive the first semester.

  • Step 3: Specify each location

Formats, dose, and case configuration are set per location, and any university-branded packaging goes through trademark approval at this stage.

  • Step 4: Change over when the campus is quiet

Changeovers go smoothest over summer, when residential dining is at its lowest volume. That usually means starting the evaluation in the spring before.
